MusikFest Parisienne : Intimate Letters

La MusikFest Parisienne - March 13th 2024

We were honoured to be invited to play at this year’s MusikFest Parisienne by the festival’s artistic director, Liya Petrova.

We performed Janàček’s String Quartet No. 1 “Intimate Letters” at the first concert of the festival, whose theme this year was “virtuosity”. It was an enormous pleasure to fill the warm wooden interior of the legendary Salle Cortot with Janàček’s wild and passionate music.

Our “Intimate Letters” received a glowing review from Emmanuelle Giuliani:

like the greatest quartets, the Magentas were able to create narrative landscapes and ambiances of constant diversity: from thrilling lyricism and tenuous breezes, to howls from beyond the grave and rugged rusticity.
The rich pigmentation of their sound was reflected in the concentration mixed with emotion legible on their faces. It was all that we hope for and expect from a string quartet: fusional but transparent, leaving space for individual voices to shine or closing ranks to create an orchestra of sixteen strings and four bows.

Thank you Emanuelle Giuliani for the kind words, and to the whole MusikFest team for your invitation!
